The Blue Picardy Spaniel is a medium, slightly rectangular gundog with a long head, dropped ears, and a flat or slightly wavy coat that looks blue-gray from heavy ticking. The legs and tail are feathered.

The Blue Picardy Spaniel is a French pointing spaniel from Picardy, developed with British blue-belton setter blood on local spaniels. It is used on birds in field and marsh. The UKC classes it as a Gun Dog.

Temperament

These spaniels are typically gentle, people-oriented, and eager to hunt. They are usually good house dogs if they get enough field work. A bored Blue Picardy will find water or a scent trail.

They respond to quiet, consistent training. Start retrieving and pointing work early.

Care and grooming

Brush the feathering so it does not mat, and dry the ears after swimming.

The breed is generally sturdy. Ear infections and hip dysplasia can occur, as in other spaniels.
