The Nordic Spitz is a small-to-medium hunting spitz with erect ears, a curled tail, and a harsh double coat that is usually white with color. The outline is square and the expression is keen.

A small Swedish hunting spitz for a house; a dense coat, a hunt bark, and energy meant for woods work rather than idle indoor hours.

The Nordic Spitz, or Norrbottenspets, is a Swedish hunting spitz used on squirrel and other small game in the northern forests. It trees game and barks to hold it. The AKC lists the breed in FSS; the UKC classes it as a Northern Breed.

Temperament

These spitz are typically lively, hardy, and vocal on game. They are usually attached to their hunter and reserved with strangers. They need more work than a short walk.

Training

They learn hunting work readily. A secure fence matters; prey drive is high.

Brush weekly, more often when the undercoat blows.

Shedding

Seasonal and moderate to heavy.

Health

The breed is generally hardy. Eye disease can occur in some lines; ask breeders about testing.
